To become a licensed building inspector, you must have 4 years of hiring experience in your respective field, obtain approval from the BCAIB, and pass state licensing exams. The Gold Coast curriculum will fully prepare you to pass standard state certification exams for building inspectors and plan examiners. RPX: “Residential plan examiner” means a person qualified to determine that plans submitted for the purpose of obtaining building and other permits for single or two-family homes and ancillary structures comply with applicable building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, gas, fire prevention, energy, accessibility and other building codes. To obtain this voluntary certification, the applicant must hold a standard certification as a residential inspector; must have passed the state examination of principles and practices; and be certified as an examiner of residential plans by the International Code Council (ICC).To take the exam for an inspector or plan examiner license, you must be at least 18 years old and have good moral behavior.
You must also meet one of the following eligibility requirements established by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Certification is required to perform building inspections. A provisional license is valid for two years. A license is not required for a commercial property inspection in the state of Florida. To mitigate the effects of wind in a multifamily home (for the MIT form), a general contractor or building license is needed.
